Volume definition

Volume is the number of shares that traded during specified time period. "Valume was 50,000 shares" refers to volume for one day. On Nasdaq, volume is doubled, because Nasdaq adds shares sold and bought. So 1000 shares traded on Nasdaq would show as 2000 volume. On NYSE 1000 shares traded would show as 1000 volume.
