Index Fund definition

Index Fund is a Mutual Fund that invests in stocks of a particular index - such as S&P 500 or Russell 2000. Index Fund is passively managed and it has lower cost structure than actively managed fund. Index Fund does not have a fund manager making investment decisions, Index Fund automatically invests into all stocks of a paticular index.
