Earnings per Share definition

Earnings per Share (also called EPS) means how much profit the company made for each share. You take the total net profit the company made and divide by the number of shares outstanding. When you hear the word "earnings", a person also often means Earnings per Share. Although earnings technically obviously means net profit.
