Derivative definition
Derivative is a financial instrument that goes up or down in price depending on
value(s) of other underlying financial instrument(s).
Futures and options
are examples or relatively simple and straightforward derivatives.
More complex derivatives are not completely understood by anyone; the 2007-2008
financial crisis was largely caused by out-of-control derivatives that were
not understood correctly and were not priced correctly.
